Aluksne municipality was founded in 2009 after regional reform in Latvia and it is one of the largest municipalities which join 15 parishes and town Aluksne. Aluksne municipality is located in the highlands of north-east Latvia at the distance of 204 km from Riga, only a few kilometers from the Estonian and Russian borders. Aluksne municipality supervised more than 70 public entities – schools, libraries, museums and others.

Aluksne museum is located in Aluksne New Palace and was founded in 1959. Mission of Aluksne museum is to increase interest about Aluksne area, to preserve local historical and cultural heritage, to carry out research of the heritage and to ensure accessible to the public.
