THE COMPLETION OF THE WORK OF THE VOLUNTEER CAMP

The work of the archaeological volunteer camp nearVybouty villagewas completed on July 24. The archaeological excavations were carried out on the territory of an ancient settlement site dating back to the second half of the 1 millennium.

The research was carried out in the framework of implementation of the international project of cross border cooperation between Estonia, Latvia and Russia AAC, with the support of the regional long term special purpose program “The Cultural Heritage of the Pskov Region”.

The volunteer camp was working from July 9 till July 24, 2013 and attracted volunteers from Pskov, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Orenburg and Tartu (Estonia).

Archaeological excavations covered the total area of 64 square meters, located on the bank of the Velikaya River, in close proximity to the church of St. Prophet Elijah. During the archaeological excavations the cultural layer of the 10-18th centuries was studied.
